The Story of Indonesian Specialty Coffee

Indonesia is one of the world’s great coffee-producing nations, with a coffee heritage shaped by volcanic mountains, tropical climates, fertile soils, and generations of coffee-growing tradition.

Today, Indonesia produces millions of bags of coffee every year. USDA’s latest 2025/26 forecast puts national production at approximately 12.5 million 60-kg bags, or around 750,000 metric tons.

But Indonesia’s coffee story is about far more than production.

It is about diversity, origin, character, and craftsmanship.

From the highlands of Sumatra and Aceh to Java, Bali, Sulawesi, and Flores, Indonesia’s many coffee-growing regions produce beans with remarkably different personalities.
